Narita & Hokkiado: Summer Festivals & Flowers

This coming July, Yat Thong and I will be going on our 9th DIY trip. It is our second two and a half week trip to Japan and this round we will focus on summer festivals and flowers. Like our previous DIY trips, natural sceneries (mountains, lake, waterfalls, wetlands and national parks) will be the main theme of our travel.

For this trip we will be visiting the below events and destinations:
  • Festivals: Narita Gion Festival, Sawara Matsuri, Hakodate Marine Day, Otaru Tide Festival
  • Summer Flowers: Furano Lavender Farms, Biei Road of PatchWork and Panoramic Road
  • Lakes: Lake Saroma, Lake Tofutsu, Lake Mashu, Lake Kuttara, Lake Toya, Lake Onuma
  • Capes: Cape Kamui, Shokaton Cape
  • Ports: Otaru Port, Hakodate Port
  • Others: Shiretoko National Park (Work Heritage Site), Kushiro Shitsugen National Park (Wetland)

Planning DIY Trip

One advantage of a DIY trip is that with careful planning many elements of the trip are controllable this enable us to maximising the fun and enjoyment at the minimum cost. It also allows the scheduling of our trip itinerary to be at the right place/time so as to capture the best moment/events and yet still leaves enough flexibility for unexpected changes.
